Navajo Third Phase Chief Blanket, circa 1900, woven with handspun wool and natural wool colors, accented by red aniline dyes. The design features bold horizontal striping in ivory, black, and red, anchored by stepped diamond motifs and serrated elements characteristic of the Third Phase period. Strong symmetry and crisp contrast give the blanket a graphic presence while retaining the softness of the handwoven textile.
